Bad situation during school lunch! Help!?

Okay, so I'm new to this school and don't really have many friends. I mean, I've got like 2 good ones but they don't have the same lunch as I do. Anyway, I have no one to sit with at lunch and I hate sitting alone! Once I asked this group of girls if I could sit with them and they agreed. One was sort of nice and she tried to introduce me to one of her friends. When the friend didn't say hi to me, the other girl said, " Oh, she just doesn't like meeting new people." The friend replied, " I don't like meeting new people taking up seats!". I politely offered to leave, and all of them shrugged rudely so poor me got up to leave. Then I sat with one of my neighbors who I used to be good friend with. When I tried to talk to her she kept saying " WHAT?", really rude like and whispering behind my back. I'm not trying to be rude but she is by far not the best looking girl in the school and she should have been happy someone like me was talking to her. I wound up sitting alone and reading a book. I don't know what to do especially since I don't even eat lunch. All these ugly girls are sitting with all these good friends, and me being one of the best looking and smartest in the school have none even though I always try to talk to people. What should I do? I need advice badly.
