My dog ate pie from the counter, what should I do?
Whoa, that's not good. Counter surfing is one thing and there are all kinds of solutions but you'd better get the resource guarding under control. You dog does not respect you and is trying to drive you away from a high value food item as it would a submissive dog. Contact a trainer in your local area that understand how to teach a leadership cl based around the NILF theory. That dog needs a little reminder course of who is in charge in your household. A NILF (Nothing In Life is Free) program, is a program that makes the dog WORK for you before it gets anything important with the exception of water. It's a basic reminder that your dog's life is not so easy without you. If you are free feeding your dog you need to stop that now. Feed the dog 2x/day, leave it down for 15 minutes and pick it up period. No extras, no people food. Do NOT feed the dog unless he performs something for you and that does NOT mean sitting to wait every day. Do NOT keep asking the dog. Ask once, if they don't do it, say "too bad" and walk off" Come back 2 minutes later like nothing ever happened and do it again. ASK ONCE. You've got to ask for a behavior and make him decide to do it.
