I think it sounds like he likes you quite a bit. Maybe there's something in the maths cles that are triggering him to be a little mad with you, or because he has friends in there who suspect he likes you.. and guys sometimes get self conscious about stuff when friends are involved. Who knows, it's probably not you that's making him act like that in Maths cles, perhaps he's struggling with the work and feels the need to be mean to you. I'd ask him about it. Good luck.
