What's wrong with my ihome?

whenever i put my ipod in and turn on the music it starts making these crackling sounds and it makes it so its really hard to listen to music. basically it just sounds like a thunder storm...? the model is: iH120P. it is pink and kind of a square shape. it doubles as a clock and stereo speakers. thanks for your help! :)
